Urban Timberworks

Artisan Furniture from Salvaged Urban Trees™

Do you buy trees or logs?
We do not pay for trees or logs, but can refer you to an arborist or tree removal service in the Portland, Oregon area who can mill your tree on site.

Do you cut down trees?
We do not cut down trees. We recommend that you consult with a licensed and certified arborist or tree removal company about the preservation or removal of your tree(s). Our services begin after a tree has been felled, milled and dried.

What reclaimed tree species do you carry in stock?
Our stock varies, but commonly salvaged species include:
Hardwoods: Alder, American Elm, American Chestnut, American Sycamore, Ash, Beech, Big Leaf Maple, Birch, Black Locust, Black Walnut, Cherry, Pacific Madrone, Silver Maple, Sweet Gum, White Oak.
Softwoods: Atlas Cedar, Cedar of Lebanon, Coastal Redwood, Deodar Cedar, Douglas Fir, Incense Cedar, Sequoia, Western Red Cedar.

Where does your reclaimed wood come from?
We receive product from a variety of urban mills and salvage sources.

Are your reclaimed wood products kiln dried?
All slabs 8/4 or under in our shop are kiln dried and surfaced. Thicker pieces are air dried (approximately one inch per year) to ensure the integrity of the wood.

Do you offer kiln-drying services?
We do not offer kiln-drying services.

Can I get points for the LEED-certification of my building if we incorporate Urban Timberworks furniture and cabinetry?
Yes, because we incorporate reclaimed wood and FSC-certified wood products into the design of our contemporary sustainable wood furniture and cabinetry, Urban Timberworks can help you achieve points in the Materials and Resources category of the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system. Please contact us for help designing your next LEED-certified project.

Do you have a furniture showroom where you sell wood furniture and cabinetry?
